Street workout is a sports discipline that combines elements of athletics, calisthenics, and other physical activities. As the name suggests, it primarily consists of bodyweight strength exercises that require no additional equipment.
The term calisthenics originates from the Greek words Kallos (beauty) and Sthénos (strength). However, the modern history of this sport dates back to the 19th century, with the United States recognized as its birthplace.
Key elements of street workout include dynamic exercises on and off the bar, such as pull-ups, chin-ups, muscle-ups, dips, sit-ups, and push-ups, as well as advanced static strength moves like the human flag, front lever, back lever, and planche. Today, street workout is an established discipline with an annual world championship and serves as an excellent complement to other sports.
